The GLOBAL ITV Brazilian Consortium includes important stakeholders from research and academia, as well as, additional industrial partners as Band TV and HXD.
USP – Universidade de São Paulo (BR)
The University of São Paulo (USP) is a public university, maintained by the State of São Paulo and affiliated with the State Secretariat of Economic, Scientific and Technological Development. Various world rankings, created to measure the quality of universities according to various criteria, particularly those related to scientific productivity, have widely recognized the talent and dedication of USP professors, students and employees.
In WP1, USP will be Responsible of technical and financial reports management for Brazilian Partners. In WP2, USP will contribute with the development of functional requirements of the interoperable ITV system, based on the description of the ITV scenario for years 2015 and up. Related to WP3, USP will be in charge of elaborating a State of Art analysis, involving different DTT systems in Brazil, Europe and other world regions. Also, USP will collaborate with some tasks about the GLOBAL ITV set-top-box prototype. And in WP6, USP will provide support to stakeholder involvement, workshops and dissemination actions.
UCB – Universidade Católica de Brasília (BR)
“Universidade Católica de Brasília” (UCB) is one of the main private universities located in the city of Brasília, capital of Brazil, in the central-west region of the country. It was founded in 1974 as a faculty and became a university 1995. The Faculty of Communication of UCB has a master degree in Communication and recently has created a Digital TV laboratory focused in a multidisciplinary perspective of development and test of Digital TV applications in ISDB-T Ginga-NCL language.
Implementation of applications for education and public interest (leader WP 4 and Collaborate in WP 2, WP5, WP6). Collaborate in specification of GLOBAL ITV STB, application guidelines and common application components. Collaborate in exploratory and documentary research of the performance indicators of production, distribution and consumption in TV and Internet with an indication of trends. Development of applications of the database access information and services sectors of health officers; Transparency in management through a tracker information on expenditures of public institutions. Production of interactive audiovisual content to support testing of applications and experiments and specifications of the test environment.
UFPA ‑ Universidade Federal do Pará (BR)
The team of the Laboratories of Research and Experimentation in Multimedia from the Advisement of Distance Learning of the Federal University of Pará (AEDi/UFPA), aimed at the research, production and experimentation of learning environments and teaching material in several communicational languages, acts, above all, in the production of audiovisual content, conception and development of usability elements and interactive applications design. Nowadays those laboratories are established as a dynamic cell of production and analysis of digital environments and multimedia contents focused on the graduation teaching in the field of the Advisement of Distance Learning.
UFPA, in WP2, will propose scenario for deployment of iDTV and Smart TV services in Europe and Brazil (2020 timeframe). UFPA will contribute with elaboration of study regarding the Future Global Interactive TV Scenario. In the WP 4 development, UFPA will work from the conception and production of interactive materials, in several formats and languages, in order to collaborate in implementation process of demo TV programme-related application and contribute with test Brazilian and European services and applications to evaluate the interoperability.
UNESP – Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” (BR)
The State University of São Paulo – UNESP-is a public institution and maintains in an integrated campus of Bauru – SP, the College of Architecture, Arts and Communication (Media Department and the Graduate Program in Digital TV) and Radio Center Cultural and Educational Television – TV Unesp.
As a university public broadcaster, besides institutional and scientific dissemination, it aims the development of innovation in all sectors of the productive chain in Brazilian Open Digital TV, focusing on training and development of content to meet demands inherent in public and private production processes of audiovisual content in converged and interactive platforms.
UNESP has a television with 48 employees who work in a variety of departments: journalism, multimedia production, videographism, operations, technical maintenance, broadcasting and business. All sectors are focused on the generation and dissemination of cultural and educational content in broadcasting, digital and interactive television.
LSI-TEC – Associação do Laboratório de Sistemas Integráveis Tecnológico (BR)
LSI-TEC is a non-profit association, in operation since 1999, with nationally and internationally recognized contributions, making it a reference center dedicated to the development and innovation in advanced technologies. LSI-TEC is a link between scientific institutions of excellence and society, promoting the application of knowledge and advanced technology to generate higher value-added products, services and systems leveraging the competitiveness of Brazilian industry. LSI – TEC is accredited by CATI and fulfills the requirements established by Decree 3.800/2001, being formally recognized as an Science and Technology Center in Brazil.
LSI-TEC will work in WP3 in order to elaborate a State of Art analysis, involving different Digital TV systems in Brazil, Europe and other regions. LSI-TEC will collaborate with the development of features for a GLOBAL ITV Middleware, especially modules for compliance with the actual Brazilian interactive TV standards (GINGA) and, also, providing a broadcast data reception module to receive applications from broadcasters in a hybrid framework.
UNICAMP – Universidade Estadual de Campinas (BR)
Unicamp is the acronym of “Universidade Estadual de Campinas”, located in the city of Campinas, 96km distant from the capital of the State of São Paulo. Unicamp is a public university subjected to the State Government. The institution responds for 15% of the academic research in the country and has a high number of patents and papers published in indexed journals. According to the Times Higher Education (THE), Unicamp is the second best university in the country, only behind the University of São Paulo (USP).
UNICAMP will collaborate in WP3 in GLOBAL ITV Playout specification and development, mainly to be compliance with ISDB-Tb standard. In WP5 UNESP will collaborate to evaluate the Playout with STB and Applications. Regarding WP6, UNICAMP will contribute participating in the Global ITV Council.
UFABC ‑ Universidade Federal do ABC (BR)
Until the arrival of UFABC in 2005/2006, the seven cities of the region (Santo André, São Bernardo do Campo, São Caetano, Diadema, Maua, Ribeirão Pires and Rio Grande da Serra) had a huge demand for places in public higher education. The ABC owned more than 2.5 million inhabitants and an offer of 45 thousand jobs distributed in 30 higher education institutions, the vast majority being private. Of the nearly 77,000 students enrolled in higher education in the region, about 65% were in private institutions, 20% local and 15% in the philanthropic community network.
UFABC contributions in WP4 will be: 1) Develop applications scenarios including 3D effects, focused for educational purpose, and 2)Implementation of applications for education and public interest, focused in experiments about 3D TV. Also, in WP6, UFABC will contribute to the overall dissemination of efforts, participating in the Global ITV Council.
BAND TV – Rede Bandeirantes de Televisão (BR)

“Rede Bandeirantes de Televisão”, known as Band TV, is a Brazilian open-to-air television network in operation since 1967. Band TV is a commercial broadcaster part of Bandeirantes Group of Communication, founded in 1937 and owner of a chain of magazines, newspapers, open-to-air TV, cable TV, radio and websites. Band TV covers more than 90% of the national territory through its 31 TV stations present in almost all the states.
In WP2, BAND TV is collaborating with the study regarding the Future Global Interactive TV Scenario. About WP4, BAND TV will implement applications for education and public interest, BAND TV will also collaborate in specification of GLOBAL ITV STB, application guidelines and common application components. BAND TV efforts related to WP5 will be based on the implementation of demo TV programme-related application, and the long-term strategy development to sustain the project’s outcomes Regarding WP6, BAND TV will provide dissemination actions through TV BAND Broadcaster.
HXD – HXD Interactive Television (BR)
HXD is a Brazilian company with international operations, focused on the development of interactive applications for multiplatform technology, taking as a point the convergence television.It has emerged as an evolution of the division of research and development in Interactive Digital TV created by HIRIX Software Engineering, formed by professionals with extensive experience in process modeling, consulting, design and development of software projects for public and private organizations.
HXD will collaborate in WP4 in three ways: 1) Improving the global services and applications scenarios using the experience in Digital TV services solutions development. 2) Collaborating in specification and development of services and applications. 3) Collaborate in specification of GLOBAL ITV STB, application guidelines and common application components. About WP6, HXD will contribute to the overall dissemination of efforts, participating in the Global ITV Council.
